Blog Lull & Depleted Uranium

Putting the pieces together after the cease fire is taking time and effort. More than was anticipated. Hence the pause in blogging. Today Humpty Dumpty came to mind.

Is any one in Beirut feeling a funny burning sensation on the face and in the eyes like me? Especially those who visit the suburbs? Could it just be the hot August weather?

Al-Akhbar [Ar] reported yesterday that a bomb hole (3m deep 10m wide) in Khiam was tested for nuclear radiation by Dr. Ibrahim Rashidi of the Lebanese University and Mohammad Kobeisi of the National Council for Scientific Research. The radiation level was very high according to both. Depleted uranium is suspected. Samples were taken for further testing to determine the type of radiation. Bernard Koushner (ex minister, France) was present according to Al-Akhbar. The article, written by Kamel Jaber, mentions suspicions of Khiam being hit by Tomahawk rockets.

See this article titled “Israelis Rain Down Deadly DU on Lebanese Civilians“. Thanks Wiggo.

A lot is going on in Lebanese politics in the aftermath of the bombing. Most are worth mentioning and/or discussing. Changes need to be made. In states-like Israel-officials are held responsible for their decisions and action. Right? At least this, should be done here too.

Plenty is going on in Iraq and Palestine too.
Who is tampering with our lives?

Later…

Hi MB,I think/hope it’s just heat-induced urban pollution cum dusty “ghabrah” flowing from the ruins: we don’t want to loose our favorite electronic <>Munâdel<>It’s Bernard KoUshner not “Koshner”: the man is a long term advocate of Israeli expansionism even though he’s a self-proclaimed Third world-ist “progressive politician” whatever that means…

Moussa,It could be radioactive material and it could be also other environnemental hazards. In both cases, the health of the population will be affected. Thois is further proof of Israel’s crimes. Lebanon should take rapid measures against this.Check this article: Cedar and Asbestoshttp://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/arne_jernelov/2006/08/arne_jernelov.html

I can hardly believe what you’re saying … I hope this was the sun or environment or God knows what but not THAT, the radiation-results seem to tell a different story though!I wonder what excuses Bush and Olmert find THIS time …What justification in the WORLD is there to do a horrid thing like that?? Can these people do EVERYTHING and get away without a scratch???I can’t possibly express how disgusted and appalled I am!!

Munich,If you read it, it must be true…right? So predictable to see you get bent out of shape over this recent blog. My my, you have such a big heart. Hey, what do you feel about Israeli’s being kidnapped and beheaded? Just curious. And how about civilians being killed on busses being blown up? Does that bother you at all? Ever write about it Munich?? You are a hypocrite and a prejudiced one at that. Get a life.

  7. To Anonymous @3:10PM, how about Israeli mothers giving birth to seriously deformed babies due to the their use of depleted uranium bombs? That bothers me. It bothers me a lot.Julie

Yesterday I went down to the south. I got back and felt really ill the whole day. My head felt weird (“heavy”), and I threw up more than once. There was nothing wrong with me before I went there. I don’t know what it is. But someone should measure the radioactivity in those areas. I know that they measured it in Al-Khiam, and I dare say it’s the same all over the south and in the suburbs of Beirut…

anonymous, why is it that the Isreali life is more precious than an Arab life. Why is one jewish fingernail worth more than millions arabs? If you wish why not start back to 1946 Irgun and Stern gangs when this whole cycle of violence began. Terrorism is the symptom, not the disease. Munich has a life of feeling and wanting better for humanity. If you drop your hate and look within and recognize the Lebanese did not ask for this and it did not begin with soldiers kidnapped. As Mahatma Ghandi: Be the change you wish to see in the world, find you heart.

I care said:That’s the difference between me and many posters here. I can recognize when Israel has made a poor decision, or needs to find other tacts that will better ensure them peace at home. I don’t use this blog as a propeganda tool to spew one-sided comments against one people. However, if you think there is something good about hezbollah…then we have nothing in common. There is no excuse for terrorism. If Israel does it, it’s wrong. However, there is a distinction between Israel and hezbollah and hamas. If you don’t see it, it’s because you lack the intellectual capacity, or you are brainwashed like many others.Munich is ‘brainwashed’. She spews nothing but one-sided comments against Israel and totally sympathizes with the plight of the Lebanese. She doesn’t fault hezbollah. That speaks for itself. It requires an answer, and she got it. When she can speak on the beheadings and bombs on civilian busses, and place a modicum of blame on someone other than Israel…I’ll listen and toss in an ounce of respect. Until then, a pretty face does not mean a mission for peace. If this blog doesn’t facilitate a discussion for peace, it is a big waste of time.I said from day one here, that Israel does not consist of all angels. Israeli’s are human and subjected to those limitations. However, the education and brainwashing of children to hate….is one small fact that separates Israel from many of its neighbors. I’ve been accused of ‘hatred’. I have none. I simply don’t give bigots a free pass. Munich is a bigot. Words of care make her feel altruistically better, but all at the expense of caring for the Israeli civilians targeted for bus bombs. It simply doesn’t get any more indiscriminate than that, does it folks?Of course, it’s not really indiscriminate when you think about it…it’s purposelly attacking civilians and non-soldiers. Very discriminating, indeed. Israel certainly can be accused of bad behavior. Now, let’s compare what Israel could have done to Lebanon to rid it of hezbollah, to that what hezbollah did do to Israel to rid themselves of….the Israel population! Hezbollah did everything in its power to kill civilians, while Israel DID NOT all places where hezbollah hid. Yes, they pulverized many places where they did hide, but Israel showed restraint for the sake of more civilian casualties. But you will never see this. Because if several towns were demolished (and that is sad, no doubt), you will never acknowledge that they could have done much much worse damage had they really ONLY wanted to rid the country of hezbollah. You have the hatred, and don’t allow yourself to see Israel’s predicament. You don’t have to side with Israel on every issue to have compassion for their plight, and their almost impossible task of being left alone by hezbollah and hamas. If you can’t draw a distinction between these peoples, solely based on the fact that two of these war-ing factions teach their children to hate and destroy Israel, then you might as well be one of those children. To the person that mentioned how Israel is teaching Palestinian children how hate because they drop bombs on those children and whatnot. That’s a valid topic. But while those children are witness to terrorful surroundings and a horrible life and upbringing, they will only hear one side of the equation. No one will tell them that Israel is responding to bottle rockets or kidnappers who behead and then gloat about it. It’s a no-win situation for those children, and their IS no way that Israel can be seen in a good light. And maybe they shouldn’t be? It’s a difficult place to live and the answers aren’t easy and cut/dried. But, still, you don’t see Israeli’s placing suicide bombers on busses or chopping off heads. It is a war, and it is unfortunate for the children…most of all. Placing all blame on Israel is naive and bigoted.

Start with 1947 the Irgun and Stern gangs massacreing and placing fear in the Palestinians. Many of us actually realize terrorism is the symptom, not the disease. Live, breath and be peace ~ we might just acheive it.
