Darwish was put under house arrest for years

“this man–this poet–was put under house arrest by the Israeli military occupation for close to a decade and only because he wrote poetry that offended Israeli occupiers of Palestine. Just think about that. This is why the question should always be: not why would anybody support Israel, but why would any humane person not to be opposed to the very existence of such a state. This is a state that puts a poet who never carried a gun under house arrest.”

From a culture that supports a massive oppression of their women (can we say genital mutilation – honour killings, legal access DENIED, etc), supports suicide bombers, wants Jewish people wiped off the face of the earth, has a list of ongoing crimes towards Lebanon starting back in 1975 and continues to this day…Palestines human rights violations and crime list is endless.I find it hypocritical at best that this site would have the nerve to be yelling about the HUMAN RIGHTS issues in Israel. Then again, it’s always easier to blame others for problems brought about by your own misdeeds, eh? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what you’re saying. *I’m* the one who doesn’t know anything (even though I got all of my info from the UN, World Health Organization, and Unicef sites).TTFN

<>“genital mutilation”<>Really never heard or seen that in Palestine care to share your bogus source ?<>“honour killings, legal access DENIED, etc”<>wasn’t anymore than any other society you obviously are in denial of the amount of domestic abuse and deaths in western societies and the recent uptake in violence in Palestine can be easily attributed to the WAR !!!<>“Palestines human rights violations and crime list is endless.”<>Ever thought what the state of Palestinian affairs would be like if the Israeli’s hadn’t invaded ?Come to think of it, try to imagine if the Middle East didn’t witness all the genocides that were inflicted on it by the colonial powers of the past and current colonialists ? Oh wait you can’t do that you’re either an Israeli or Zionist Evangelist .

Mahmoud Darwish transcended the wooden language of many engaged poets and yet remained committed to Palestine. It is such a loss. But lucky for us, he left some of the most beautiful poetry written in Arabic.
